Wind power is the conversion of wind energy into a useful form, such as electricity. Doesn't get much better then this.

The wind has always been a good resource for energy. It is readily available and relatively inexpensive for the most part. Actually it’s free. With the use of wind turbines, we are now able to harness wind energy in a very efficient manner. The wind blows the blades of a wind turbine which is connected to an electric generator which generates electricity!

Some of the over 6,000 wind turbines at Altamont Pass, in California. Developed during a period of tax incentives in the 1980s, this wind farm has more turbines than any other in the United States, producing about 125 MW. Considered largely obsolete, these turbines produce only a few tens of kilowatts each.

In some regions, the government offers financial or other support to encourage the development of wind farms. This can come in the form of a government subsidy. Where the landowner can be granted a tax break or a grant of some sort.

The average output of one megawatt of wind power is equal to the average electricity consumption of about 250 American households. Wind power was the most rapidly-growing means of alternative electricity generation at the turn of the century and world wind generation capacity more than quadrupled between 2000 and 2006 and in some countries wind can supply 10% or more of the nationīs electricity.

Wind power provides an excellent source of alternative energy. It will help us in the long run. It is a renewable resource and isn't going to run out. As technology improves, the cost of this form of alternative energy will become more favorable and the government will be able to make wind energy more readily available to everyone.
